Le Dorat is the historic center of Limousin's cultural heritage. In the 4th Century. St. Martial and his disciple, St. Purelian, started building the main church in Le Dorat. Many of the buildings standing were first constructed over 500 years ago. The crypt to the church of St. Anne was built in the 11th century. Every 7 years there is an event where the inhabitants from Le Dorat and the surrounding area participate in a grand procession through the town with the relics of St's Israel and Theobald. The next one is scheduled in 2002. If you can't wait that long, there is a festival every year from mid July through the 15th of August which culminates in a large fireworks display including lasers and special effects.
